What happens in a Christian Science service?

Healing!

The purpose of our services is to bring healing to individuals and our community.  We share fellowship, joy and love, and a spiritual journey as we worship our Father Mother God and Christ Jesus together.   We learn that church is more than just a service on Sunday; it can be the structure and basis for all we do throughout the week.  We discover that we are the loved spiritual children of God.

Wednesday 25 December

The members regret there will not be a testimony meeting here on Christmas Day
A meeting is being held at FCCS Claygate and Esher at 10.00am
45 Hare Lane, Claygate KT10 9BY

New Year’s Day

A testimony meeting will be held here at 8.00 pm as usual

Music is also important and a prelude and postlude are played by the organist and a solo is sung during the service.

The Lesson Sermon – the sermon read at our Sunday services – is drawn from the Bible and from Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures.  Most Bible texts are from the King James Version.  The sections within the lesson develop different aspects of the subject.  Each week the same sermon is being read in Christian Science churches all around the world and this helps ensure a consistency and depth to the spiritual message.

Sunday morning services    10.30 – 11.30

Sunday School                    10.30 – 11.30

Testimony Meeting               Wed 8pm

Mary Baker Eddy, who founded the Christian Science church ordained the Bible and Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures (the Christian Science text book) as the Pastor of the Church.  We have no ordained clergy.

Our services are conducted by two people called the First and Second Readers who are lay people elected from our membership for a three year term.  The First Reader chooses three hymns from the Christian Science Hymnal and a passage from the Bible which all relate to the subject for the week.  There is also a time for silent prayer and the repetition of the Lord’s Prayer by the congregation.  The Readers read the Lesson Sermon out loud.
